We live in a ‘mental’ world – where it’s easy to get stuck in your head. Dance is a fantastic way to bring your focus inside, tap your sensual juiciness, and set yourself free in effortless fluidity.
Remember that scrumptious feeling of losing yourself in a song? To let go of thinking about the steps, and just Move?! Knowing that if it feels right, it’ll stick to your soul. Learn how with this little inspiring exercise.
To be able to listen to her own intuition, a woman must value herself. This means that women must learn to align with themselves first, rather than simply following and/or pleasing the outside world. When a woman comes from her center, she knows her inherent value and offers this gift to the world. She breathes, creates, and lives, from the abundant vibrance that arises from her unique core.
We were born to move, we have everything we need inside of us.
I believe dance is one of the best methods to get out of your head, and into YOU. That’s why I teach women (and sometimes men) how to allow their bodies to respond to music without thinking about the moves, or what we all look like. We were born to move, we have everything we need inside of us to flow free.
The exercise I’ve created below is to get you started on a daily practice. I like to think of it as my daily meditation in movement. A moment just for you, to set yourself free, be wild, get rid of tension, allow your raw self to flow free. You to awaken your sensuality, release the feminine energy inside of you, and experience your exuberance…

It’s not about being a dancer; it’s about being YOU.
You’ll only need about 10 mins a day, to start getting out of your head and into your body, everything we need is right inside of us. This is my daily practice to keep me grounded, energized, relaxed, sweating, and most of all.. feeling FREE. It’s so important that I started teaching a weekly class to teach, practice and share this skill – if you’re in Amsterdam, join me on Fridays at rasa-lila. No need to panic if you’re in some other awesome place in the world, I’ve shared some simple instructions below, with a crazy inspiring video I found by Tasha Blank that screams the essence of everything I teach about the rich freedom of dancing.
What to do:
- You will need between 8-20mins. Find a space where you feel relaxed and won’t be disturbed, or distracted.
- Choose your favorite dancing music, and grab some earphones in case you can’t blast it.
- Let yourself go, be free, shake your head and body… Dance it out.
- If you need a little inspiration – watch the video below!
- Get your notebook and write down your discoveries, surprises, and the little things you noticed using the guiding questions below:
Integrating what you need in movement reflection
- Did you gain an appreciation for the root of your body – your creative core?
- How easy was it for you to connect? What could make it easier?
- What would help you connect quicker?
- Write down the moments in your life where you could use this type of grounding
- How could you incorporate this into your life?
